Garden Consultations & Design

Ecological Garden Design

“What is ecological gardening?” you may ask. The answer is simple (yet complex). It is what nature does when we are not interfering.

It thrives. It is alive…and low maintenance.

When we apply ecological gardening principles, we are designing a landscape that is resilient, needs fewer resources, and is more friendly to birds and beneficial insects. While these principles can be confusing and overwhelming at first, you will find that soon these bits and pieces of information will come together and make sense. In a way, it’s like working on a puzzle.

First and foremost, my goal is to layout the pieces of this puzzle and then use that knowledge and help you turn your garden into a beautiful eco-system. And no matter the size, your garden will not only celebrate the flora and fauna but will also be pleasing to the eye and be a reflection of you. A place that brings you joy in every season.

Gardening Challenges

Do any of the following apply to you?

  • Your garden regularly gets mowed down by deer?
  • One area of your yard is always stays wet and soggy after a rain?
  • You would like to enjoy more birds, bees and butterflies?
  • You have a flowerbed with a random collection of plants that don’t really seem to fit together?
  • Some plants thrive and others struggle and you can’t figure out why? (And you start to doubt your gardening skills?)
  • You want to include more native plants but don’t know where to start?
  • Invasive plants are taking over and you don’t know how to eliminate them?

If you answered ‘Yes’ to one or more questions, I can help!

How To Work With Me

I have been working with native plants and designing my own gardens and those of friends for many, many years. In 2024, I opened up my offerings to the larger community and after working with 4 wonderful clients during that first year, I am excited to take on a small number of new clients this year.

I am currently in the process of completing the Ecological Gardening Certificate at Mt. Cuba Center in Delaware and I’m eager to share the wealth of knowledge I have gained from this amazing program with you.

To get started, let’s chat. Send me a messge (or use the ‘contact us’ form) and tell me a little bit about your garden and what you need help with. And from there, we can see which one of the below options fits your needs.

Option 1 – Garden Consultation

I visit you for a 1 hour consultation and walkthrough. We talk about any challenges, your ideas and visions. And at the end of the visit I will take some pictures and measurements as needed.

Within 2-3 weeks, you will receive a comprehensive report with answers to your questions and plant ideas.

Fee: $100

Option 2 – Garden Design

This option includes the Garden Consultation services as well as a hand-drafted planting plan with all the information you need to bring the design to life.

Fee: $200 and up (depending on size of project)
